This Week: Feb 24-28
Gothic Literature...Continued!
Monday - We will complete the lesson on Poe from last week. If you need the questions, check the blog post from THURSDAY of last week to download.
Tuesday - A contemporary piece...Stephen King's "The Boogeyman"
HOMEWORK - Complete the questions on the story. This will count as a 25 point quiz. If you are absent and need the story click HERE. For the questions, click HERE.
Wednesday - The style of Roald Dahl. We will look at the life and some of the work of this British writer. If you are absent and need the story click HERE.
Thursday - Reading questions on "A Dip in the Pool." If you are absent and need the questions, click HERE.
Friday - An Alfred Hitchcock adaptation of the story.

This Week: Monday, Feb. 10-14th
The Short Story and the Single Effect! We begin with Edgar Allan Poe, who some say is the "father of the short story" and his philosophy of "The Unity of the Single Effect."
Monday - Notes...preparing for our first unit on Gothic Literature.
Tuesday - Notes on Poe. If you are absent, get the notes from the power point by clicking HERE. Just the bio notes on Poe are important, up to slide 27.
Wednesday - We begin reading "The Tell Tale Heart."
Thursday - Complete the Levels of Thinking handout based on "The Tell Tale Heart." You may work with a partner. All handouts are due tomorrow. This is a 10 point classwork assignment. If you are absent, you will need to make it up. Click HERE for the handout. YOUR ASSIGNMENT IS ONLY PAGES 3, 4 and 5. DO NOT DO THE WHOLE PACKET!
Friday - We will view a film version of the story.

This Week:  Welcome to Short Literature!!
Tuesday - Course overview and syllabus. The text for the course will be The Story and Its Writer. If you are absent, sign a copy out from the library.
Wednesday - An examination of the different types of criticism that we will be applying in the course. We will look at "Little Miss Muffet" from various literary perspectives. If you are absent and need the handouts see below:
Miss Muffet Literary Criticism handout (definitions on pg. 1798 of the text).
Thursday - Friday: We will examine the story "Happy Endings" by Margaret Atwood. We will discuss the concept of meta-fiction and how it applies to this piece. Please complete all questions for this piece. This will count as a homework assignment. The story is on page 43 of your anthology. If you need a copy of the questions, click HERE.
